In the near future, America has become overrun with crime, and one of the cities hardest hit is Detroit. After Murphy, one of cities best cops gets attacked and lies near death, Security Concepts, the company in charge of the police department decides to try out their ROBOCOP program on what's left of him to combat the crime. Out of a hidden hospital lab emerges what the company describes as "the best of both worlds: the fastest reflexes modern technology has to offer, onboard computer-assisted memory and a lifetime of on-the-street law enforcement experience."
Initially, the ROBOCOP is successful. Presumably personal memories have been programmed out of his circuits, but it turns out to be the glitch in the scheme. Somewhere, from the deep recesses of the dedicated dead policeman’s mind come stirrings, longings -shaft of humanity, which have nothing to do with the war on crime. Eventually, something in his computer memory comes alive -the realization of his human past.
ROBOCOP starts his own investigation and sets out to find avenge his murder - and deliver a few surprises to his proud creators.
