The Ride of the Peacemaker
In May 1842, Dick King – the Peacemaker – left Durban with his companion Ndongeni to begin a legendary 10 day, 950km dash on horseback from Durban on the South East coast of South Africa, to Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape. It was an epic ride that would change the course of history and would ultimately lead to the annexation of Natal by the British. Now, adventurers Barry Armitage and Joe Dawson take 6 horses on their journey to retrace history by undertaking Dick King’s grueling ride. Watch as they battle gated communities, unsympathetic drivers, tar roads and industrial areas, persistent rainfall and ride far into the night.
